The Creative Habit: Rituals
I loved listening to this chapter. I downloaded the audio book and listened to it as I colored the easter card. I loved how she talks about habits and more specifically rituals for your day/ studio/ artistic process. Hearing of the examples of other successful artists, businessmen, etc. was really interesting. I’ve never thought about rituals as small things, the in between things of our day; I’ve always thought about ritual as a big process like communion or sacrifices etc. Her daily process is getting up, putting on her dance clothes, hailing a taxi and telling the driver where to go. But the ritual is telling the driver where to go.
I’ve decided that I want to start my own creative ritual as well. I’d like to start something that gets my day started. I’ve always struggled with getting up and getting going/ ready for the day. During this time of “safe at home,” I want to make myself get out every day. There have been days where I don’t leave the house. So my ritual is sitting up in bed when I wake up in the morning. I am going to say out loud “I am going to walk today.”
I completed it for one day. We’ll see how it works out. I’ll keep you updated.
