In OG Homestuck, is Calliope a reliable narrator when it comes to how classes and aspects work?
Yes, completely.
For the most part, but she takes some creative liberties that I like.

No, she's mostly or completely doing educated guesses that I like.

ok i think i figured it out this time
The story says that passive and active classes are about frontliners and backliners, but I think it's more so about what kind of role they play in the story.
Think of it this way. A bunch of people are building a house to live in. There are people tearing things down to allow for more space to grow. It's necessary. There are other people decorating the house alongside them. It's also necessary. Without the former, there’d be no house. Without the latter, there’d be no home. It’s life versus functionality. It's disconnection versus hope.
Another thing to bring up is the roles in a classic story they would take. All active classes are background characters, but often necessary for the story. The passive classes are protagonist-like characters. A Witch aids in a quest, but nothing more. An Heir goes on a journey and ascends to the throne. A Thief drives the plot forward. A Rouge drives the power of kinsmanship. A Knight does his job, but without wonder. A Page wonders, but doesn't do his job. All of the roles contribute to the overall story in many ways, some more than others.
Calliope is the most in tune with her aspect and enlightens and inspires others. Caliborn shapes and breaks his aspect in and uses it for raw power. Feferi makes a physical space of an afterlife through her active Life power and shows it to Jade, but it's frightening. It's a house without a home. Aradia brings life to the area through Time, and you feel that sense of reality while she shows the doomed Dave around the dreambubble. Aradia shows life through her aspect. Feferi made it physically appear through her aspect.
Is any of this making sense
Do you classpect non-Homestuck characters?
Yes, all the time!
Yes, but primarily only OCs and/or favorite characters.
Yes, but fairly rarely.
Yes, and I'm not even a Homestuck fan!
No, but I used to.
No; I don't really think about it.
No; I don't think it works outside of Homestuck.
No; I'm not a fan of classpects/classpecting.

what if the Witch's "Class fable" (as i've heard it called) is by it's nature tragic, being the story of the Faustian bargain. the only reason Jade didn't lose her metaphorical soul is by finding a loophole in the contract by becoming her own patron. Either your patron takes their end of the deal (Damara), you break the contract and suffer (Feferi), or you get off on a technicality (Jade) the whole "Witches start out passive and grow to be the most active class" sentiment is because they have to overcome their patron.
theory
Ok so like I've taken a lot of classpect quizzes to figure out what id be (both combination quizzes and ones that test class/aspect separately) and one thing i find interesting is if the quiz includes aspect i always get heart. So I guess that's gonna stick. But for class I've gotten Knight, Seer, and Prince. Obv not gonna go for prince cuz thats all Dirk aint gonna be snagging a title from a canon character. But hmmmm Seer or Knight. Oh god just realized ALL my class options are derse kid coded.
I'm probably thinking too much about it but I want to make sure it feels right cuz like I have a Sona to make.
