Rant time:

Test: (1) Two Named Women, (2) Who Talk to Each Other (3) About Something Other Than Men.

God, that shouldn't be so hard. Yet, it seems practically impossible for Hollywood to creat. I am not the first to say this, I certainly won't be the last.

My issue is not the lack of movies in general that pass this test, nor is it the lack of big movies that pass this test. I mean, Hunger Games passes this. More and more movies pass this test as time goes by. It seems that there are more movies being made that celebrate women and friendship that don't specifically center around me.

My issue is this: why aren't there more (or any) movies made for women that DON"T have some sort romantic subplot? Some of my favorite movies are For a Good Time Call and Bachelorette. These two movies are awesome. They are all about friendship. Even though I'm not a huge fan of Bridesmaids, it does this empowerment thing really well. Even Frozen is great at focusing on the relationship between women and putting the romance secondary. However, why can't there be movies where romance doesn't appear at all? Is it because women don't want to see them? I can't believe that is true. I like to think that I could enjoy a movie about women who don't need to fall in love with a man to have fun or be whole or learn something. I mean that is basically my life, so why wouldn't I enjoy being able to relate to a movie heroine more completely?

After thinking on this for some time, the only movie that I can think of that seemed to be made for women about women that does not include some romantic storyline is Violet and Daisy. This is why I love that movie. It is interesting, fun, weird and talks about friendship without the addition of romance. I think this movie is the best type of Chick Flick and I wish that we had more like it.
