Draco’s first inkling that something was amiss occurred during breakfast in the Great Hall, when he told Greg that his habit of eating two kippers every morning left him feeling entirely disgusted.
Draco didn’t know where the words had come from. They had flown out of his mouth, speedy as a broomstick, rude and ill-bred. Mother would have been quite ashamed of him.
Draco’s hand’s flew to his mouth. Had he been cursed? Hit with a stray hex during DADA?
It was only when he looked across the Slytherin table that he was rewarded with an answer. Pansy and Daphne were gigging into their bowls of Cheeri-Owls.
He gave them his most intimating Malfoy glare.
“What, exactly, have you done?” Draco demanded. “And Pansy? Your fringe is far too harsh for the shape of your face-”
Draco closed his mouth in utter shock. The words had bubbled up and flowed out of his mouth like an overflowing cauldron.
Pansy frowned, narrowing her eyes before speaking.
“Veritaserum,” she said, pulling her hand mirror from the depths of her satchel. She looked at her reflection before she continued. “I’ll have you know that my fringe is perfect. Daphs and I added a few drops to your Pumpkin Juice this morning, Draco. We knew that you had Potions with Potter this morning… You’ll never admit your feelings without a little prodding, love.”
Daphne chimed in. “You stare at him every time he enters the room! He’s your only subject of conversation! Potter this! Potter that! Tell him the truth, please. We can't take another term of your pining!”
Draco massaged his temple with his fingers.
He really had the worst friends.
~*~*~
Potter was as gorgeous as ever when he sat down beside Draco for their Potions lesson.
“Pans dosed me with Veritaserum,” Draco whispered immediately. There was no point hiding the truth. “It’s making me say some jolly odd things, Potter! Like you’re the most handsome wizard I've ever seen… And I dream about kissing you every night… Like I love you.”
Harry laughed at Draco’s confession.
“Merlin, Draco, you Slytherins have some bizarre ideas about friendship. Tell them we’re dating and put them out of their misery.”
One year ago, I decided to set up a challenge for myself for the new year. I was to write one drabble a week for the entire year, forcing myself to commit to weekly deadlines, word limits, and prompts in a way that intimidated me more than I’d ever be willing to admit.
The drabbles were to be based on the @hogwarts365 weekly drabble challenge, giving me three prompts each week (of which I was required to use at least one) plus the very flexible word limit of “EXACTLY 365 words" (their capitalisation, not mine). I also decided to combine this with the weekly drabble prompts provided by the FB fanfic writers’ group The Pen15 is Mightier.
Additionally, to make it more interesting, I wanted all the drabbles to be connected, telling the story of a long-term relationship through short glimpses over a span of several years, or even decades.
As I am an avid planner and plotter, I was absolutely terrified to dive in without knowing what was about to happen in the story, to be so totally in the hands of the upcoming prompts.
But I managed, and today I completed the challenge by posting the final drabble in the series.
It has been an amazing journey for me and my creative writing, and I'm ridiculously proud of having completed it. I had high hopes for it as I started it, and yet I've managed to exceed all my expectations. Every single one of these drabbles is so precious to me, and the story they tell when read together is the perfect mix of what I love most; pining, UST, slow burn, romance, banter, humour, cute kids, angst, fluff, smut, flirting, and a very happy ending.
If you haven’t read it already, or just read the occasional drabble here and there, I’d be delighted if you wanted to check it out:Â
The pregnancy hormones running through his body were making him anxious, queasy and a little sad. Draco got out of puff walking up the stairs, his favourite pudding turned his stomach and even apparition was out of the question.
“I could floo over to Xenophilius Lovegood?” Harry suggested, coming over to sit beside his beloved. Draco was leafing distractedly through a Potions journal, his other hand resting lightly on the swell of his belly. “Ask him to make up some of that plum and cherry tea that Luna recommended? It was the only thing she could stomach when she was expecting Lorcan and Lysander.”
“Merlin, no,” Draco replied, shaking his head at the idea. He placed the journal on the floor. “The mere scent of the stuff has me parting with my dinner. Just stay beside me, love,” he continued, taking Harry’s hand and knotting the fingers inside his own. “That’s the only thing that’ll make me feel better.”
Harry let his hand explore all over Draco’s growing bump. They were five-and-a-bit months into their pregnancy and Draco was really starting to show.
“We can’t wait to meet you, Lily Narcissa,” Harry said, addressing their baby. Your nursery is all done now, painted with flowers that sway in the breeze and clouds that drift across the celling. It’s lovely. You’re going to be happy, baby. We promise.”
Harry glanced at Draco. He was surprised to see his darling’s eyes brimming with unshed tears. He leant forward and wrapped his arms around Harry, resting his head in the crook of his shoulder.
“Don’t talk so,” Draco muttered into Harry’s skin. “You know I can’t help my emotions… It’s so bloody mortifying, crying like this all the time.”
“You’ll be back to your old, prickly self very soon,” Harry assured him with a smile. “Everything that you’re going through now is worth it. All the tears - all the bad days - will disappear in a moment.”
Draco seemed to rally at that. He sat up and wiped his face with a finger. “Not a word of this to anyone,” he said, pressing a kiss to Harry’s cheek. “My reputation couldn’t stand it”

James Sirius/Teddy - it’s time they told the truth.
also here on ao3.
“We should plan, y’know, in advance.” James is a ball of nervous energy, his knee bouncing incessantly, his fingers tugging at a loose string at the rip of his jeans. “What we’re going to say, y’know.” Teddy wants to throw up, he can feel it, his stomach rolling, he can’t say anything for fear of vomiting everywhere.
That will go down well. Hi, Ginny, Harry, thanks for raising me as one of your own children all these years, to repay that debt, I’m going to shag your eldest son, have been for six months now actually, turns out he can keep his mouth shut, thanks, bye, oh no, I’ve vomited all over your nice rug.
“I think we should just be honest, y’know.” And Teddy loves James, he really does, but if he hears y’know one more time, he’s going to scream. Scream, vomit, next stop, St Mungos. “Just, get it out there and tell them we’re together, y-”
“Yes.” Teddy grabs at James’ hand, hopes it’s soothing, hopes that his panic isn’t radiating off of him. For twenty-six years he’s heard how brave his parents were, and he can’t even do this. “We’ll just say, we’ve thought about seriously, we’re not making rash decisions, and, and, and-”
“And we’re adults.” There’s that set to James’ face, the patented Potter look of determination, so utterly Gryffindor. “We’re adults, and I love you, and I’m tired of secrets.” His knees are still bouncing, but he’s rubbing his thumb across Teddy’s knuckles, his cheeks flushed the way he gets whenever they dare discuss emotion.
“I’m sure it won’t be that bad.” And it won’t, probably, it’s been ages since Harry had any uncontrolled magic instances, and Ginny’s trying not to act like her mum these days, and Lily and Al will be there, so surely they won’t react too badly with witnesses. James is nodding, looking a bit mental, his head bouncing in time with his knee. “Adults.” It sounds weak but it’s the best he can manage around the desperate need to puke.
“Right.” James is on his feet in one swift movement, dragging Teddy with him, a death grip round his hand. “Off we go.”

pairing: Remus Lupin/Sirius Black
warnings: swearing, semi canon character death? (it’s a non-magical au but james and lily are still dead)
word count: 365
summary: Sirius starts his rotation at the same hospital Remus works at.
notes: I don’t know that much about med school or clerkships/rotations but hopefully my portrayal isn’t too inaccurate since I did do some research.
No one ever said medical school was easy.
Even Sirius’ mother, the late and not-so-great Walburga Black, had been honest about that – but she’d also said it’d be worth the reward. “When you’re a doctor, everyone will respect you. No one will remember your teenage indiscretions,” she’d said, with a smile full of venom and a knife-sharp gaze.
He’d wanted to tell her to go fuck herself.
Instead, he’d nodded and bit his tongue.
He wouldn’t have before. Before James and Lily died, before Harry was ripped from him and shipped off to his reprehensible relatives, before he was almost convicted of their murder, and before it turned out Peter was the real murderer. But after, he had no one and nowhere else to go to. At twenty-two, down and broken, all he had was the mother he hated.
At twenty-nine, she was gone, and he was better – save for the stomach full of nerves as he faced down his first clerkship.
“It’s never as bad as you think,” a lilting voice said from behind him.
To Sirius’ credit, he only jumped out of his skin a little. He looked over his shoulder, blinking at the fair-haired man in scrubs.
“Pardon me?”
“Whatever you’re here for, it’s not as bad as you think,” he repeated. When Sirius still didn’t understand, the stranger added, “The anxiety. It’s written all over your face.”
Sirius exhaled. “Damn.”
“It’s alright,” the stranger replied, grinning. He grabbed the door, holding it open for both of them. “Where are you headed?”
“Family medicine. First day, first rotation.”
A quiet snicker escaped the stranger. “That time, hm? Well, I’ll let you in on a secret: that you’re this nervous is a good sign. It means you care. Just be nice to the patients and the residents and you’ll do fine.”
Warmth spread through his chest. “Thanks.” The stranger nodded at him, picking up his pace as if to leave. The warmth faded. “Hey! Wait. I’m Sirius, I didn’t tell you that.”
The stranger paused. “Remus. I’m a nurse in pediatrics. Swing by if you ever want to get lunch.”
With a wink, Remus was off and Sirius was smiling in his wake.
