for the short fic meme, Cora/Lydia #12
12. Writer and editor AU
Cora looked across the room to where Lydia was watching her expectantly. Her hair was tied up again. She alternated between nervously putting it in a ponytail and then letting it loose when she was nervous, something she had done about thirty times in the past hour, which wasnât surprising because she was constantly reminding her girlfriend that âThe sequel has to be perfect, Cora. My editorâs counting on me.â
She was her editor, but she wasnât about to remind Lydia that.
âIâm just at the part where Cara tells Lyla to stay away from Alex.â Cora raised her eyebrows at the redhead âI get that these books are based around are lives, but you couldnât even get a little bit more creative with our names?â
âRead it out loud,â Lydia instructed, ignoring the last comment.
Cora sighed and skimmed down the page. ââI donât even understand what you see in Alex,â Cara said, âYouâre beautiful, witty, incredibly intelligent for you ageââ weâre going to have to trim the self-indulgence in the final copy, obviouslyâŚâ
ââWhat do I have to do to keep you away from him?â Lyla smiled at Cara, a dazzling ray of sunshine that made the werewolf wonder how it had taken her so long to realize her true feelings for the other girlââ I actually didnât fall in love with you until we took the twins to DeatonâŚâ
Lydia glared at her, almost growling in response. âI am going to break up with you unless you finish the sentence.
Cora grinned and continued reading as Lydia reached for something in her pocket. Her hair was once again down, so it was a safe bet to say she was looking for an elastic to tie it up again.
ââYou could always marry me,â Lyla suggested,ââ Cora stopped and put her face in her hands, âLydia, I love you, but if you donât write this proposal out you are going to be ridiculed by everyone who picks up this book.â
She looked up as Lydia sat down in her lap, a small black box in her hands. Cora almost laughed at the ridiculous of it, but held herself back as Lydia opened the box to reveal an engagement ring.
"Cara accepts, you know," she informed her.
Cora let herself laugh this time, kissing her fiancee on the cheek.
