I wish authors who live outside the US more often choose their country / city as the setting for the story. I've seen in discussions that people are afraid that their home culture would too... hm, exotic(?) unfamiliar(?) for readers. So they choose New York because it seems safer option. More neutral.
But it's boring when almost every modern-world game takes place in NYC, LA or what we can call "typical small American town" 😞
Honestly, if an author is American I can't blame them for writing a state there as the setting. But learning about new places and culture is exciting, and there are plenty of readers who would love to read about them.
The main thing would be to write the setting in a way where it eases the readers into it :) And that's what I plan to do with Hellkeepers!
