It had suddenly become very important for Hiro to carry on with his project. It was something that him and Kiki had started off, but he couldn’t really wait any longer. After all, it was a project that brought him back to simpler times, and it really helped to keep working on it. Maybe Kiki would be back to take a look at it one day and be really proud of him.

He’d made significant progress, and had actually managed to finally make the prototype work. It was simple, but the temporary container he’d made for the magical energy source Kiki had provided was actually holding up wonderfully.

It took about a week for Hiro to develop something a bit rudimentary, but it worked. It combined old plans for a laser beam inspired by sci-fi movies and the idea of a portable weapon. It also helped to realize that it was possible to use the stone’s power to regulate the energy’s temperature output to a certain degree.

So one monday, instead of going to school because that could wait, Hiro went out with something in mind: He’d save Swynlake with his new invention! Ooh, Aunt Cass, Jim, Kiki and everyone would be so proud.

He knew the lake was being taken over by evil flowers and the like. He’d already almost been stung by one of them the other day. So that’s where he headed. After arriving at the edge of the infested lake and regulating his apparatus, he strapped the contraption to his shoulder and elbow. He liked to think it looked like Megaman’s arm, which it kinda did, except not as cool or blue.

Anyway! So, Hiro adjusted the temperature of the laser with the handy control panel installed to his phone and fired at a cluster of roots and vines and thorns! A loud zap was heard, and a large cloud of explosion-like smoke cluttered the area for a few seconds. Overall, the young man was excited. Had he found the answer to this town’s problems...?

...It did not work. In fact, it felt like the slower growth of the plants had suddenly begun accelerating, and it was coming in his direction.
