In the beginning of May we took an Early trip to Hilton Falls in over a year. we clambered our way through the unmarked trails, along the mostly rock and tree covered section towards the fire pit. For the past three or four years the water level over the falls has been a mere trickle, this year however it is a torrent, as the heavy rains and local flooding have added a lot of runoff to local rivers and streams. In early May we made our first trip to Hilton Falls in over a year. we clambered our way through the unmarked trails, along the mostly rock and tree covered section towards the fire pit. Getting to the falls involves a wonderful walk along well groomed trails. This is the main trail in from the parking area. Karen was getting ahead of me; she was dwarfed by the long row of tall pines that lines the main hiking trail. NOVEMBER 2017 NGM_6563_3222-1-222 by Nick and Karen Munroe A Walk In The Woods.... It was a cloudy overcast day at Hilton Falls Conservation Area on Thursday. the weather was relatively warm for mid-November. It was a comfortable day for a long hike into the falls. we stopped along the way to enjoy the lovely fall weather and to watch the chickadees and squirrels preparing for winter. This is a shot of a clearing just steps away from the falls where there is a small fire pit surrounded by wooden benches. we sat there for a moment enjoying the warmth and crackle of the fire; in the background we could hear the roar of the waterfalls. it is a lovely place to take a moment to just sit and think.
