Hi! I have a question, why are the fans choosing a new prime? i don't understand.... Optimus is still alive, rigth?
We don’t quite have the full picture yet! The poll is for the “Power of the Primes” toyline, which is going to be what comes after “Titans Return.” The winner will presumably get a new toy as part of that series. We haven’t actually been told outright that they’ll get a new toy, but it’s how all the past fan-vote polls have worked, leading to Windblade for the Thrilling 30, Victorion for Combiner Wars, and Trypticon for Titans Return.
If this vote seems to be happening quite far in advance, given that “Power of the Primes” isn’t due to launch until 2018, it’s likely because this is a big decision that’ll be reflected in IDW’s comics, and they need to get out in front of the idea and set it up properly!
Optimus is still alive - for now! - but there can always be more than one holder of the Prime title! We have little information about the “Power of the Primes” story as of right now, but IDW has been building to a return of at least some of the original Thirteen Primes, and this will likely be involved with that.
