I see a winter of spoons in my future, at least until the healing is further along

Working on a punch for silver or gold foil. Starting stock was 1/2” rake tine. The last pic is after heat treatment. My first attempt at forging one of these and won’t be able to try it until the lead plate gets here Thursday. This happens to be the basic shape for aspen leaves that will be punched from gold or silver foil and overlayed on steel.

Practicing layin’ down some lines, then grinding them off and begin again. The last time I couldn’t resist adding a bit of copper to see if I’ve got the weave correct. Some of the lines are a bit deep, but pretty happy. Wish I knew what patina to use with mild steel and copper, but couldn’t find anything on the internets.  

Yeah, the spoons are boring, but my focus is on using different materials and technique. It’s easier when there is something completed/useful at the end.
