Skimming along the ocean surface you see a dance of light peeking in and out of the tide, as if the sky's stars have made their way into the waves. As you glide closer, the dance becomes slower and begins to create more recognizable shapes, spots and stripes begin to form. Your eyes adjust to the dispersement of light and begin to realize, it's not a reflection of light against the water...it's light deflecting against an alluring blueish gray canvas...a whale shark! This leviathan beauty graces the waters as if it's in its own ballet with the ocean as its partner. You're immediately drawn in by its calm, accepting nature, releasing a tranquility that is rarely seen or experienced between species. Read on as our storyteller shares how whale sharks still leave him in awe to this day. These massive yet harmless creatures, with no shark teeth and covered in cute spots, are curious with swimmers and spend hours at the surface where people can interact with them. You couldn’t conceive of a better evangelist for sharks! One cannot help but feel humbled when one of these ocean giants graces your presence, watching as its huge body passes within feet of you, its huge mouth gulping down tiny plankton, all propelled by its mighty tail."
