Yup. Last week it was “Widowers can’t have sex” and this week it’s “Loras is my gay bff!”
Loras is a knight— he spends 90% of his time either in a giant bulky suit of armour or out in the practice field wearing shirts, pants and boots he can down and dirty in. The rest of the time he’s wearing pretty things that someone told him to wear, and being dashing for the sake of keeping up his family’s public appearance.
He likes knocking boys off of horses with sticks. Nothing in the books indicates he’s super into shopping or buying pretty clothes (awesome armour— yes). Not to mention in the books and the show, it’s pretty clear that Loras is mostly concerned with himself and his immediate family (and Renly, who I would consider his family). Everyone else is sort of… on the periphery of his world.
He’s not very… aware of other people after Renly’s passing. At least, in the books he doesn’t appear to be. He snaps at Tyrion, he snaps at Sansa, he’s constantly verbally sparring with Jaime. He’s a pretty inward facing guy, which is understandable because he’s 17 years old, he lost a loved one, he’s put in a bunch of positions he doesn’t want to be in, etc. etc. His general personality is pretty prickly, too. His charming ‘Knight of Flowers’ schtick is just that— a schtick. He charms and he smiles and he acted the part of the perfect knight, but then Renly’s death happened and suddenly all those knight and chivalry stereotypes were stomped on, and we saw Loras as a guy who was trained from a young age to kill, and who uses his emotions as a weapon and doesn’t hide them like his sister.
So yeah. I don’t know why people think he’d suddenly be the best “sassy gay friend” except because they want to stereotype him.
Also, I think a lot of Loras talking about weddings and clothing came from more of a “I wanted to marry Renly one day” with a mix of “I remember Margaery’s wedding to Renly”. Just my thoughts on it, though.
