To say they were surprised would be an understatement. None of them, the mages that had stayed on the other side of the barrier to protect the children, had expected the party to return. And especially not all of them. They looked weary, that was certain, but they all seemed to be alive.
Lill glanced at the other mages that had stayed behind and for a moment nobody moved to take down the barrier they had erected once again when the group had set out to save the tower. In the end, it was Petra that made the first move when they realized First Enchanter Irving was among the people coming toward them. A joint effort, just like throwing it up after Wynne had left, was necessary to drop the barrier, and once it had, Lill was the first to approach them.
“Is it over?” She asked. “What happened? Are the demons gone?” She need to know what had happened. Had Wynne not convinced her to stay with the children, she would’ve entered the tower herself. Sitting on her hand while others saved the day had never been one of her stronger suits. She needed to do something. Needed to help. But now, hopefully, it was all over. And all that was left was rebuilding. Something she had already decided she wasn’t going to stay around for.
“Or do we need to put the barrier back up?” It was almost an afterthought.
