The other day I had one of my friends that texted me because he was really frustrated about where his business wasn't. If youâre watching this, you might be an entrepreneur. I'm an entrepreneur, and we always want things to go faster than they do, right? He was just really frustrated. We're really good friends, and he's a very, very positive person. He just wanted to just share what was on his heart. I can't even count how many times I have felt that way, and I'm sure you have, too, where it's like you just want to throw the baby out with the bath water. You're just like why am I doing all this?
There's a lot of times where in my mind I just kind of quit, but then I turn around and hire myself again!Â
I know that might sound kind of funny or clichĂŠ, but itâs true! You probably heard of that before, but I think it's a big deal to hit the reset button on your mindset, on your attitude, and really just clear that stuff out, because we all know that things pile on top of each other during the day, and by the end of day, we've all had those days before. Literally, you don't want to take one more phone call, one more person complaining about something, or whatever it is. You just can't take it anymore, right?
I'm talking about this because I've been through this several times, and I'm getting a lot of questions about that. Really we have to get back to what would the world be like if we weren't doing what we're doing. Let me put that in context. We're all driving towards our purpose, and if you don't have your purpose yet, that's fine, if you're in discovery right now. There's nothing wrong with not finding your purpose. You don't really find your purpose. It doesn't fall on you like a piano from a third floor building. Literally, you work yourself into what's meaningful for you.
You got to think back about why is it you're doing what you're doing. I know you guys have heard this before. My question is, are you actually doing it? Are you really going back to thinking about why are you doing what you're doing and who is it going to impact?Â
What if you were gone, and whatever you were aiming to do or you were doing right now, wasn't getting done. The famous pastor, T. D. Jakes, talks about making your misery your ministry, and there's a lot of us that we're working in our field of work right now because it's our passion, or we're passionate about some piece of it that allows us to find ourselves, and allows us to exercise our purpose and our calling in what we're doing.
A lot of us, as entrepreneurs, freedom is a big, big deal. It's a big deal for me. There's a lot of you out there that freedom is a big deal for you, too. It's one of your top, top values, and because you value it so much, you want to help other people become free as well, and so you have this passion about getting whatever you want to get done, getting a certain project done, all these types of things.
I want you to go back to what would the world be like if you weren't in it, doing what you're doing and pushing against and slaying the dragons that you're slaying. It wouldn't be the place that it is today. I know it's a rhetorical question, and I'm not giving you really space to think about it. Maybe you could pause the video, but I think it warrants some time and some focus for you to sit down with your journal, with your spiral, whatever, and just go what would the world be like with me in it, if I achieved everything that I want to achieve? What would the world be like? How would your kids live like, how would you grandkids live like, if the world was the way that you wanted it, because you accomplished what you wanted to accomplish.
Hopefully, the things that you want to accomplish involve other people. I think that would be key. I think that's part of meaning, and fulfillment, and contribution, right? Maybe if what you're willing to achieve doesn't involve anybody, may you have to start back at the starting line. Maybe there's a reason why you're not achieving what you're achieving, because you're not involving enough people, or you're not involving people to help them reach their goals, too. Maybe, I don't know.
Then, also, I want you to write what would the world be like if you weren't here? What would the world be like if you did not accomplish what you're setting out to accomplish right now? Where would your children be, and where would your grandchildren be? Where would your family be? Where would your friends be right now, if you weren't aiming and achieving what you're trying to achieve right now, or you didn't hit the goals that you're looking to get. I think it's sobering.Â
I think that it really is a lot of good introspection for yourself, because I think you know what you need to do, and I think that when you write it out, you get a chance to express yourself in a way that you're not being interrupted by anybody. You're not having anybody ask you about your question. You're not having me talking in your ear. You got no videos, no nothing, and you're sitting there journaling and writing, and there's just something that happens when you're by yourself and you're just writing about what if this happened, what if this didn't happen? What's the world like with me in it, achieving my goals? What's the world like me not achieving my goals, or me not even being here.
That's what the lesson is for today. I hope this video is going to help you arrive at your next intended destination healthy, wealthy, and happy.
