Coles "Mix" ad, Coles Magazine
In-house
This print ad is very plain and simple. White clean space in the background, product shot in the foreground, price point, and brand.
The look and feel of the ad is very Target-est, which is an interesting approach. Notice the Coles logo is very small in the bottom right-hand corner.
The ad comes across as fun and sells the brand as simple, easy fashion at a reasonable price. The choice of a red vest and red polka dot jumper would not be a coincidence, the red and white colour scheme is Coles branding, this helps to position the Mix brand clearly and simply.
Very simple creative, aimed to sell products quickly.
Every era has its good points and regrettable trends, but for sheer idiocy, ugliness, meretricious music, televised banality and general malaise the 70s are unparalleled.
Trust me on this. I was there.
(and so was I....as a child, of course.) I can remember wearing these lilac polyester pants from Sears (my aunt worked there and got huge discounts) or loud plaid bell bottoms.
My fashion life didn't suffer as much as many of my peers, because I went to Catholic school and we had to wear uniforms.
