As part of my creative process, I sketch the shapes I see in cracks and stains on weathered walls and discarded, decaying objects, using those images as starting points for paintings or mono prints. When I started traveling with a digital camera, I thought would shoot the typical tourist sights. Instead, I found myself drawn again to focus in on small areas of deterioration. I see landscapes, churches, animals, and humanoids. Marks and blemishes that would normally go unnoticed stop me with their beauty. All of my images show the products of nature at work. I have not manipulated the content in any way.

I meet the blank paper without a plan. I just have the idea that it’s good for my soul to play with color. I find myself putting color and shapes to the random thoughts – negative and positive – of my past, present and future; everything that’s steamrolling though my mind; rumbling in my body. My work winds up pretty much figurative and narrative; a piece of my whole story. I usually don’t know what any of my paintings are all about until later in the process. One tends to leads to the next and before I know it I’ve done a whole series.
