Pines are sticky below the sun; they blot out the worries the rays may seer.

The trail is clear, but the hedges distract; The pace slows quick for traveling workers.

Ants, triumphant, carry their feast: a leg of a spider and a deceased beetle.

Moving on, the roar of stream-fall calls; the change in wind signals soon.

Past the tangle of ivy and web, the clearing widens for rubble past.

Ruins and carvings of decades and hopes of conquering wood remain silent.

Speckles of light filter through as waters churn near shoe and socks. Drops

of nourishing cool liquid shocks the skin; taste the salt that clings from sweat.
