“No.” That was the only word he got before she was closing the door in his face, intent on leaving him and his little annoying smirk outside her house – where she wouldn’t feel the urge to punch him.

His hand came out to stop the door in place before it got any far, slipping easily between the crack of the doorframe before she could close it properly. “Come on – is that really a way to greet a friend?”

“Are we friends though?” She retorted, the need to smash him over the head with a book prevalent in her tone, for the mere fact that he sounded like he was being a dick again. “I don’t know. I don’t usually find myself friends with people who call me granny and things like that. Kind of counterproductive for friendship, don’t you think?”

“Aww, don’t be like that. You know I adore you. I mean – I did walk you home the other day.”

“Even when I said you didn’t have to.”

“How else would I have known where you lived?”

Her eyes narrowed and she swung the door open from where she’d been trying to close it, glaring at him with brown orbs sharp and cutting. “I do not like you. I hope you realize this.”

“But we went on that date the other day.” He mused, sliding into the room before she had a chance to react.

“Because you wanted to take me to a couple café so you could get a discount on sweets.” She intoned, closing the door behind her with a huff. There was no getting Myles out of your life once he decided he wanted to stay, it seemed. “You literally used me as a discount card.”

“Why complain, the food was good.” He made his way around the room, staring at things and poking at a few of them too.

“That’s not the – “ She heaved a heavy sigh, brows furrowing as she rubbed at her temples in annoyance. “I can’t even bother to explain. What are you even doing here?”

He seemed to hum a bit, before turning to her with another snarky grin – and she swore there was a nice heavy dictionary right by the coffee table that could wipe that expression straight from his lips. “I was bored.”

“…and I’m entertainment?”

He snickered, picking up a piece of candy from the coffee table before plopping down on her couch, seemingly nice and cozy and ready to annoy her for the rest of the day. “But of course. No one makes me laugh as much as you do, granny. You know that.”

It wasn’t the good kind of laughter.

She stared at him, wondering whether now was a good time to smack him with a chair instead of a book – and sighed again, giving up.

“Fine. Fine, whatever. I don’t – whatever. Just – don’t break anything. Or I will break you.” She moved to the kitchen, annoyance with him fading away into resignation. Might as well make the best of what she could. “You annoy me.” She called back, just for good measure.

“I like you too.” He called back.
