Not sure if you're the right blog to ask, but I have a problem. I write almost exclusively hard science fiction, and I'm mildly obsessed with making sure everything is as realistic as possible. This is difficult, though, when I can't, for example, observe pharmaceutical chemists at work in a lab and ask them about intricacies of their etiquette. What should I do when I can't glean tidbits like those from internet research alone?
You may need to buckle up and check out a library (I know no one likes being told that, but it's a place to start). Â If there's a University in your city, you could check out their course listings and see if you could get your hands on some of their textbooks. Â Some professors will also have public websites where they put their the syllabus for their classes on top of the school website and corresponding book store. Â You can also look for second-hand bio and chem textbooks on Amazon, University-specific used book stores, and such; I don't know if Half.com is any good, but it's a subsidiary of eBay.
I don't know very many science-specific blogs, but you could try going through the Overly Honest Methods hashtag around the web for some fun (I always like being reminded how the scientific method is still susceptible to human error, haha).
