We entered the world of color this week in Web Authoring class and also talk about CSS Layout related elements. At the start of this lesson, a statement that struck a chord with me and further established learning taken place so far for me personally was the fact that our goal as developers is to attempt to secure our ‘vision’ for our website as much as possible. For example some systems/browsers across the globe might not have the desired font we would like to resent our website with, hence the use of Font Stacks and enabling backup aesthetic options is so important. However, on another note, something that is definitely more universal is color.
I was genuinely quite surprised at variety of means to call a Color Property in CSS. One can use RGB Color with numerical values (red number, green number, blue number), add a forth Transparency Element (red number, green number, blue number, transparency value) or, the most common method is through the use of Hex Values. I found this method quite difficult to grasp at first as it works with this combined number/letter system (0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, a, b, c, d, e, f). Nevertheless, I then recognized this six digit color code format from my experience in Photoshop - I used to wonder what those digits meant. Similarly to the numerical color method, with Hex Values the first two digits are for red (#000000), the next two digits are for green (#000000), and the last two digits signify blue (#000000). For example, fully saturated green would be: #00FF00; F being the highest of the number/letter digit system.
Additionally, we observed the layout options for Box Models. These boxes wrap around every HTML Element, whether Box or In-Line - they are its Content. This boxes can styled in the following ways:
Padding (the padding AROUND the Content)
Margins (the spacing OUTSIDE the Content)
Border (the lining/border BETWEEN the Padding and Margin Areas)
After learning this, I can visualize further how to layout a website more aesthetically - especially combining the CSS Coloring knowledge also. I am curious to tie all my learning together and edit my draft website in the next lab class.
