Tell us about yourself: What do you do in your free time? What are you reading currently? Writing? Playing? Drawing?

I’m Lauren and I work part time as a book seller.

As you know I write about books on this blog but I also run an online book club where I can talk about books any hour of the day. We’re not at over 1,000 members so there is always someone there to listen to me scream about books haha.

Also, I met Allie because of the book club! I literally flew across the ocean for her (and Aryell and Sarah)!

I also play a lot of video games – currently I’m subscribed to World of Warcraft so blogging has taken a little bit of a back burner whilst I get my moneys worth.

I also keep a bullet journal which I’ve been meaning to share with y’all a bit but never do. Its hard not being lazy.

I have a cute sticker on it that says “Dead mean don’t catcall“!

I’m currently reading We Sold Our Souls (ARC), The Graveyard Books (which belongs to Aryell and I’m writing cute notes in it), Blood Crescent (eARC), and Empire of Storms.

What’s your favorite season? Do you cater your reading to the season or do you just read whatever, whenever? Thoughts on the Pumpkin Spice Latte?

Not so surprisingly Autumn or Winter are my favourite seasons! I enjoy the cold as I feel more awake and alive. Plus its easier to get warmer than it is to get colder.

I’ve never tried to cater my reading to the seasons aside from making sure I consume spooky reads in October! I don’t read too much “summery or fluffy” reads which is why I don’t tend to cater to the seasons.

I was originally going to say I’ve never had Pumpkin Spice Latter but the lovely Charli let me try a sip of hers (and I did my best to not leave behind black lipstick stains) and it was rather nice! I think I’d like to try it again.

I was going to say no photo this week because I’m busy but actually surprise, you can have an outdoors-y photo of a book.

February 4: What’s your favorite urban fantasy novel? Sell it. What about it makes it your favorite?

So Urban Fantasy is also the read-along theme for March’s choice and this is what made me realise how few books I knew that were UF.

I honestly don’t think its a case of I don’t read them and more of I just don’t look at sub-genres all too often. If its fantasy, its fantasy. Y’know?

When research I found out that my favourite series from high school is actually UF so thats the series I want to introduce you too now; Wicked Lovely by Melissa Marr.

The series takes place over 5 books and each book we get to know more about a fae court, so by the end you have a well rounded understanding of the courts fighting for the ruling power.

We primarily follows Aislinn, a human, woo-ed into the fae world to become the next Summer Queen. She’s one of my favourite characters due to her strength and will power to do right not only for herself and the human world, but also for the court she finds herself in the centre of. Whilst she does have alot to battle with, particularly the power and misleading-ness of the fae she is able to manouver her way through this series that provides her with an ending that I was always rooting for.

Honestly this series is probably where my obsession with piercings (hi cute goth boyfriend Seth) and tattoos started (Ink Exchange being a whole book centered around magical tattoos for the Dark Court) so it gets to keep a place in my heart always. Even if Keenan is the most problematic character to exist.

I’m going to leave this open and not tag people here but instead if you find yourself here reading this then I am encouraging  you to take part too.

Talk about your favorite book, sell it. What about it makes you love it? Do that meme thing where you use pictures to spoil the books but without any context.

As Allie so kindly mentioned in her post The Gemma Doyle Trilogy by Libba Bray is a great series to pick up; the books are A Great and Terrible Beauty, Rebel Angels, and The Sweet Far Thing which I will often refer to as The Sweet Farting. Not because it sucks, just cause thats how it reads at a quick glance. I haven’t even finished the final book yet so that is how you know its good that I’m still recommending it.

The other two books, or well trilogys, that I want to mention are The Bone Witch trilogy by Rin Chupeco and Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy by Laini Taylor.

If you haven’t read any of these and love bad ass and sometimes morally grey witches then you have to pick these up. I love these girls so much and the journeys they go on!

Each of these fantasy built words are done so well too and honestly it would be a shame if you didn’t get to experience them for yourselves.

If you need any more convincing here is my Laini Taylor shelf, its not as amazing as otherse but I love it.
