The joke is that math is scary.
If I wanted to be any more blatant I would have drawn a political cartoon with a kid trick-or-treating as a bedsheet ghost with "MATH" written on it.
@rattyarts ‘ Edgeworld just keeps getting better. I drew a buggieman earlier, but the new Calculatoads are so INCREDIBLY on the nose that I couldn't not make my edgesona on seeing them.
Hex is a buggieman/calculatoad! Buggies have 6 limbs and Calculatoads appear to have 2 so he got 6+2 of them. He's just a bit conflicted about eating bugs when he's part bug so his diet leans heavily toward math as well as supplemental solar energy from the cell on his back. He will do your math homework unsolicited and spends most of his day solving problems and inventing new ones. Push his buttons, it tickles!
He wants the innocence and simplicity of the PG world but also some of the freedom and benefits of Edgeworld without all the scary grittiness! Haha! What a fool thinking he can have both.

I learned all my math facts from a few dozen PC games on CRT monitors. They helped plant not only my lifelong obsession with math but also with computers and toons. (Limbs came from elsewhere.) They are my most treasured memories.

Looks like the swap is taking rather well! Hex's limb-shifting blends with Knaxia's reptilianness and turns into a six-armed naga. Gotta photograph all the adventures or they didn't happen!
