You stare at your heels as you wait for him. He promised for a date night and now it’s nearing 10 and he is nowhere to be found. Lately he has been so busy with work that you barely saw him. But you never complained knowing how much it meant to him. So as an apology and a ‘thank you’ he planned this date night. But it seems like work won again as you slumped on your couch.
Trying not to lose hope you concentrated on the creases of your dress when you heard your doorbell. At least he didn’t entirely forget you. Seeing him dressed in his Green bay hoodie and jacket you feel overdressed. He pushes in chewing a gun and head towards your kitchen to deposit the packets that he bought.
“It’s freezing outside. I had to walk from the store.” He says shrugging off his jacket.
“And why would you do that?” You stand at the doorway crossing your arms. You don’t remember inviting him in.
“Do you want a tic tac?” He offers you the small box without answering your question.
“You know that you’re late, right? You can’t make up for it by giving me a tic-tac”
He lets out a long sigh as his shoulders slump and you can see the tiredness and guilt on his face.
“I know that. And I’m sorry, babe. I was on my way out and then Jeff called me with this emergency and I had to go in again and… I know all these sounds like excuses but I had it all planned. Candle light dinner and what not.”
You feel defeated. You know why you’ve kept mum all these days and you will now too. He is passionate about his work and you want to support him all you can.
He can the reluctance on your face as he comes and encases you in arms. You want to look away knowing that his one look can melt you into a puddle.
“Hey, hey!” He chucks you under your chin to make you look at him, “I know screwed up. And there are no excuses. But I can still make up for it. The night is still young.” You look at him pointedly and that makes him break into a smile. “C'mon. You, me, popcorn, two liter Dr. Pepper and a movie. You in?”
You stall a bit before agreeing. “Oi” he protests. And you break into a smile as well.
“But I need to change first. If I’m going to spend the night arguing with you that your favourite superhero can’t be a villain than I need something more comfortable to wear.” You day slipping away from him.
“Oi, Magneto is not a villain!”
“Shut up.”
