HESTIA → Greek goddess of the hearth and the home

Virgin goddess of the hearth, home, and chastity. She is a daughter of Rhea and Cronus, and a sister of Zeus. Not often identifiable in Greek art, she appeared as a modestly veiled woman. Her symbols are the hearth and kettle. In some accounts, she gave up her seat as one of the Twelve Olympians in favor of Dionysus, and she plays little role in Greek myths. Her Roman counterpart Vesta, however, was a major deity of the Roman state.

Warmth, peace, and affection radiate from Hestia’s children. Born of the hearth, the virgin goddess’ offspring are beings of the home. They stoke the fire with a wave of their hands, ease growing conflict with a non-confrontational smile, and create enticing dishes with the barest of ingredients. They may  not seem as powerful as other demigods, yet, respect to them and their mother is always given, for she is the first born of the gods.
