Hesperosuchus would like a bit more personal space
Archosaur Art April 2025 Days 23 to 26: Hesperosuchus gracilis, Kentrosaurus aetiopicus, Machimosaurus rex and Argentavis magnificens
DinApril Day 8: A Triassic dinosaur (that your father saw).
Welcome to DinApril 2026, where instead of recycling my list from last year, I made my father come up with the dinosaurs! Our eighth day features a Triassic dinosaur: Coelophysis bauri! This female is hunting a Hesperosuchus, and her pursuit has led her into a dry riverbed.
Being a 2000s kid, I grew up reading dinosaur books that went on and on about how Coelophysis was a baby-eating cannibal. I later learned that the "babies" were misidentified Hesperosuchus and I quickly fell in love with the little crocodylomorph: they're just so little.
Coloration inspired by the Safari LTD Coelophysis from 2017.
Day 3: Camouflage
A basal crocodylomorph Hesperosuchus agilis is hidden in a paleo-ferns to avoid predators such as other basal theropods.
Speaking of which, resent studies that hesperosuchus suggested a possibility extistence of lepidosaur-like lips that protected its teeth from the outside, like theropods have.

An important time in the history of life, the triassic boasts a greater diversity in life than most people realize and itβs much more than just the rise of the dinosaurs.
Today is Hesperosuchus Agilis, a distant crocadilian.
#Dinovember/#Archovember Day 5, and our first pseudosuchian, the scrambly little croc Hesperosuchus!
So Iβm pretty sure I got the proportions wrong on this guy; the skeletal I was using was a lot thicker than depicted in most of the restorations. Oh well. Maybe next year π
