“Oh come on! Give us a hint at least!” Cesar begged, his bright fuchsia colored hair glittering under the spotlight. You playfully rolled your eyes, hiding your panic underneath a mask of nonchalance and mischief.
“Alright, Cesar... how about, because he doesn’t know who he is yet either, I give him a hint? And if I win the games, I’ll tell you how he reacts at our next interview.”
Cesar nodded at you almost frantically, desperate for seemingly any piece of information he could get from you about the man that held your heart.
“I’ll take it!!” He cried with a boisterous laugh, the crowd cheered as he turned to them, asking if the deal was worth taking. He turned his gaze back to you, and you could hear a hush fall over the crowd, the silence was almost deafening.
Your ears started to ring a bit at the sudden lack of sound and you suddenly regretted letting him corner you into responding to his really, rather innocent question. But an innocent question does not always have a simple and innocent answer. But you couldn’t just not say anything now, you had made a deal. One in which you could still refuse to hold up your end, but for some reason, you kind of wanted to tell. Holding it in had taken a toll on you, and if you died in the games then he would never know. You briefly wondered if never telling him was the better option, because on the slim chance that he felt the same, what if you really did die in the arena. He would be broken far beyond repair.
You could almost feel Yoongi’s dark eyes burning into you from wherever he was watching the interview from. You took a breath as a low heat started to burn in your stomach, your sudden nerves making your palms sweat. You took another breath, deeper this time. Cesar took one with you but seemed to hold his breath.
“I know you probably weren’t expecting this, and I know you’ll probably be upset but-“ you began, addressing Yoongi unbeknownst to him yet.
“I guess, if I die tomorrow, this is my last chance to tell you. I just wanted you to know that if you ever asked anything of me, I would do it within a heartbeat. I would give you anything you wanted. You’ve managed to make me feel alive only days before I might not be anymore. And all you had to do was smile at me.” The crowd stirred gently at your sincere words, soft coos and aws floated up from the stadium that held millions.
“I can’t say your name, I know that, all I can give you is the words to a song that time forgot, but one you and I know well. All I can say is that-“ as your eyes drifted over the people of the capitol in the crowd, you found a face with a pair that shone bright in the sun but were darker than night. They bored into you, he was trying to hide himself, the emotion in his eyes, but he was failing miserably.
“yours are the sweetest eyes I’ve ever seen.”
