“Mess Is More” single-line type 07/10
Inspired by Hershey text, a single line engraving font (or stroke font), this design consists of a line continuously following a 56° angled grid. Hershey text is used for pen plotters, machine tools, and other circumstances where the pen width itself is significant.
For my final piece, a home made cartesian coordinate machine will trace a copy of this image with an LED, captured by A DSLR camera with long exposure. The machine is rudimentary in comparison to high-resolution printing devices available today, but this project is intended to the capture imperfect, human-like expressions that can come from technology.
The rigid, modular style of the letterforms is will ideally exaggerate any glitches in the machines function. Imperfections are essential for the final outcome.
