"Seriously, man, what do you want?" Will asked, holding up a hand, mask off as he stared at the one who had been his best friend for years, hold a gun to the woman he loves head.
"I don't have to want anything!" Macklin yelled back, taking a step back, pulling her with him, arm around her neck. Will flinched, hearing the rubble that tumbled off the empty ledge behind him.
"Everyone has their reasons, right?" Will asked slowly, leaning down to put his mask on the ground, holding both hands up. "Everyone has a reason why they do this. Why I became a hero, why you're doing this."
"Even if I had one, what would you know?" Macklin spat, taking a half step back, heel of his boot brushing the edge. "Your life is perfect. You got the girl, the powers, all of it."
"Okay," Will said slowly, watching as Macklin looked over his shoulder, down at the fall below him. "Okay."
"Stop saying that!" Macklin yelled, looking back at Will, hand holding the gun shaking a little.
Neither said anything for a moment, Macklin taking heavy breaths as the girl in his arms stared back at Will with wide eyes.
"Let's keep this simple," Macklin finally said, looking up at Will with a hard expression. "You get to choose."
Will narrowed his eyes, frowning as he opened his mouth to speak. The words died on his tongue as Macklin continued.
"Her. Or me."
