Tarot Liturgy: Sun-Mercury Conjunction in Virgo
The Sun and Mercury have met once more, at twenty degrees of Virgo, in the bound of Jupiter, within the sixth house of the zodiacal circle. This is the second union of these two lights within a short span of weeks. At the beginning of August, they were joined in Leo, when Mercury was moving in retrograde motion. Then the throne belonged to the Sun and Mercury approached it from a place of shadow.
Now the order of honour has shifted. The encounter occurs within the house of Mercury itself, Virgo, where the planet stands at home and strong. This reversal of setting alters the entire quality of the meeting. The last encounter bore the seal of fire and regality, whereas this one bears the seal of service and purification.
The astrological web surrounding this moment reveals its weight. The Sun and Mercury form a sextile to Jupiter, exalted in the waters of Cancer. This harmonious current allows the Logos to find expansion and blessing. But the Sun also begins to sense the heavy hand of Saturn, retrograde in Pisces, preparing an opposition that will culminate in the coming days. The axis of Virgo and Pisces is again lit with intensity, as only a week has passed since the total lunar eclipse in Pisces.
The partial solar eclipse awaits at the end of Virgo, where the Sun will be fully opposed to Saturn before stepping into the equinoctial fall of Libra. The sky labours under a strong activation of the sixth and twelfth houses, the fields of service and sacrifice, body and Spirit.
The reading was carried out at the very minute in which Sun and Mercury stood together, with lavender incense burning in honour of Hermes-Thoth and the mercurial Archangel Raphael. Psalm 71 was read beforehand, under the sigil of Michael. The rite took place in the hour of Venus, on the day of Saturn. Out of this alignment the Mirror opened, and the four cards were drawn in the form of the cross.
