 You pull out your blade with a wet squelch, splattering yourself with blue blood. Another pile of clothes you need to burn, you guess. 

“Oh fuck,” Ferra whispers. 

“Eyup,” you say. You wonder if it wasn’t a bit of a mistake to take them on these trips, if they couldn’t take a little blood. You’re kind of surprised if that’s the case. When you were still running around in your crew of little monsters you definitely bled some people.  “Can you grab that shit in the bag? She took it from the little ferrety sucker at the end of the market.” 

You wipe your blades on your pants- they’re stained anyway, and they disappear off into your strife deck. 

“You didn’t have to off her if you just wanted the stuff back,” Ferra says, grabbing the bag and slinging it over her shoulder. “I’m a goddamn thief, you moron.” 

You stand up straight, and look back at them. They raise an eyebrow.

Cleverest is probably Alnica or Daginy, Herlyn is just straight up smart but she’s not exactly educated, and Daginy or Lyrian is the most educated.

Varsch is not a clever boy. At all. Herlyn, despite being smart, has probably done the least amount of schoolfeeding.

I think. Herlyn probably also finds this relatable. She’s not actually that much of a get up and take charge sort? She likes following someone with a plan, but she sure likes the idea of kicking down doors and change the world.

Herlyn’s definitely a rather unconventional engineer. She’s quick to get an intuitive grasp on how pistons, gears and steams work towards getting a goal done.

Unfortunately, she’s not very patient when it comes to actually building things. She gets impatient and fed up, and probably has a dozen of big projects left unfinished and a couple of smaller ones that don’t do very much at all.

However, steampunk Herlyn makes a very good saboteur. Get her blueprints to something or get her into the gear space of some giant ship or something, she can quickly identify weak points in the gears and muck them up real fast.

Herlyn’s a city elf mage, growing up in Denerim with a single mom who taught her how to steal and conceal her magic.

Unfortunately, her mom knew very little about how to conceal magic, and she was caught at about 9 years of age and sent to the Circle.

At the circle, Herlyn had a lot of trouble fitting in, partially because her mother taught her more about pickpocketing than reading, and so her school work suffered. The more her schoolwork suffered, the angrier she got, and the angrier she got, the more she would act out.

Alnica, a chantry initiate, taught her to read, which helped her a great deal with the ability to do better, and struck up a romance with her, which gave Herlyn the incentive to do better.

Then Daginy came along.
