It was driving him insane. It wouldn't shut up. The damned thing. He should just kill it.
Where was it? In the trees, .3 seconds away from where he was. He could sever that chirping bird's head off with his own bare hands. He rose from where he was seated beneath the canopy of a tree. It was decent shelter, the thick of the forest providing shade from the searing hot sun. Exhaling through his nose, he pinpointed the noisemaker. A little bird, chirping and chirping from a neatly woven nest for its mother to return. Without a second thought, he lunged and propelled himself off from a low hanging limb. The trees hardly shook from his fleeting steps and on the high branch he roosted next to the nest. Eying the chick, he slumped his shoulders as the sqwuaking only got louder. What was a hawk's chick doing all the way out here. It was a terrible place.
Heaving a sigh, he stepped off the branch and landed easily with his hands in his pockets. He crouched down in the muddied terrain and quietly began to sift through the dirt.
