        fully  indulging  in  the  best  part  of   the  post  -  valentine’s  day  festivities ,  noel  carries  a  bag  of  heart  shaped  candies  and  chocolates.  clearly  ecstatic ,  a  satisfied  grin  rests  on  his  features  as  he  essentially  skips  down  the  street  hardly  paying  attention  to  what’s  infront  of  him  as  he  rips  into  a  bag  of  pink  and  white  m&m’s.  of  course,  disaster  strikes  the  moment  he’s  caught  of  guard.  ramming  right  into  a  stop  sign,  noel  effectively  knocks  the  bag  out  of  his  hand  --  m&ms  sprawling  across the  pavement.   a  string  of  curse  words  leave  his  lips  as  he  attempts  to  catch  the  candies  before  they  hit  the  ground .  all  in  vain  ,  however .  he  looks  up  immediately  making  eye  contact  with  someone. “ you  didn’t... see  that  did  you?”  he  asks  --  visibly  embarrassed. 

Lothric remembers the first time he saw the ocean.  It was here, on the beach in the Golden Ward, in the winter, with hardly anyone around.  It was like the universe had privately invited him to come look at the sea meeting the sky.  It was breathtaking.

Today’s crowd makes him nervous.  It’s been a long time since he’s had to think of crowds as dangerous, but it still holds true that if he’d shown his face in a crowd this size back home, he would have been captured and killed.  The kites in the air are all very pretty, but the visual noise of so many of them all at once is overwhelming.  Still, the beach-goers have shown him the basic courtesy of not trampling on his beach towel or messing up his tent or otherwise invading his space.  He and Lorian set up the tent pretty far from the ocean and the thick of the crowd, and that helps a lot. 

When they saw that Lothric would need some time to get used to the new setting anyway, Lorian went to swim in the ocean.  Their plan is to look for people to interview together for their paper, in an hour or so.  But after about 40 minutes, Lothric notices that another beach-goer has been hanging around the sidelines, nearby, too.  She looks like an offworlder.  She doesn’t look particularly hostile.  She might very well turn down an interview; it couldn’t hurt to ask.
