Este livro já existia aqui em casa há tempos — veio comigo de Seattle — mas confesso que tinha medo de ler. De acirrar ainda mais as minhas anarquias internas, que convenhamos, todos que vivemos em sociedade temos e tentamos reprimir dia e noite. . Mas alguns eventos que aconteceram recentemente me fizeram preparada para ele. . Então, ontem à noite, depois de terminar "Beauty and Sadness" (Beleza e Tristeza), uma estranha novela do escritor japonês Yasunari Kawabata, fui terminar de assistir "The Bookshop" (A Livraria) no Netflix, e que é baseado num livro de Penelope Fitzgerald, do mesmo nome. Um livro semi-autobiográfico. . No final do filme, este é dedicado a John Berger, um novelista, poeta, pintor e crítico de arte britânico, bem conhecido pelo ensaio "Ways of Seeing" (Modos de Ver), no qual ele puxa o véu de como enxergamos arte no Ocidente (ou como fomos levados a vê-la). Esse ensaio surgiu depois de uma série de 3 episódios que ele fez para a BBC e que estão no YouTube (e estou doida pra ver). . Fiquei curiosa e fui checá-lo online, o nome me chamou atenção. Mas logo vi que eu o tinha confundindo com o Herbert Read, mas aí já era tarde demais pois o universo me trouxe exatamente aonde queria: Herbert Read, e seu livro que eu evitava. Poesia e Anarquismo. . Para vocês verem a beleza da dança emaranhada da arte, como ela flui a gente nas direções que interessam, a cada momento. Estou aqui comendo este livro que vou terminar hoje. (Pérolas nos comentários). . E mais curioso: o guru que eu tive em Seattle e que me abriu as portas e os olhos de ver o mundo como é, tinha por nome da sua prática: "The Way of Seeing". O Caminho Para Ver. Way é tanto caminho como modo. . E aqui estou eu reconhecendo cada coisa neste livro! Por isso que não o abri antes... mas uma hora... sustentamos ver. . Pus as fotos de outros 3 livros que habitam a minha casa, vivem do ladinho deste outro (mais 2 do Read e 1 do Tolstoy). Esperam por mim. Me dando tempo de acordar para VÊ-LOS. Alguns já entrei, mas se não os acabei ainda é porque estou no meu processo de reconhecê-los. . Education as the preparation of artists
“...the aim of education ought to be conceived of as the preparation of artists. By the term artist neither he nor I mean necessarily painters and dancers, poets and playwrights. We mean individuals who have developed the ideas, the sensibilities, the skills, and the imagination to create work that is well proportioned, skilfully executed, and imaginative, regardless of the domain in which an individual works. The highest accolade we can confer upon someone is to say that he or she is an artist whether as a carpenter or a surgeon, a cook or an engineer, a physicist or a teacher. The fine arts have no monopoly on the artistic.
