Welcome to the 2nd part of our Marcus Halbauer interview. Today is all about his amazing club team and his role at @Helsingkrona nation. You will want to work with these people after reading this (and watching their teasers), for sure.

Please tell us in one or two sentences why your organisation is important in Lund.

“Like all the other nations here I Lund, Helsingkrona Nation is a place you want to go to while taking a break from your studies. If you have been to the club at the nation then you probably went to Helsingkrona’s Schlagerclub, which is famous in Lund.

What is your job at the nation and how did you reach your position (what is your background)?

“My start at Helsingkrona dates back to autumn 2012. I wasn’t really into the whole nation-concept back then. I didn’t want to be part of it at all and instead just focus on my studies. But then a friend of mine, working as a foreman for the night club at Helsingkrona Nation at that time, persuaded me to work at the night club for her. I really enjoyed it, so I continued working for her and got to learn more about the activities at the nation.

In autumn 2013, I applied to become her successor as a foreman for the night club and got the position. From the first day of my foremanship at Helsingkrona Nation, I decided that I wanted to continue be active at the nation. Since then I have been foreman for the novice committee (autumn 2014) and today I am foreman for both the technical department and the club-planning at the nation.”

Is your position different from what you expected it to be? How?

“Let us focus on the club-planning foreman position that I currently have. At Helsingkrona Nation we call it “Klubbförman”, not to mix it up with “Eftersläppsförman” who actually run the night clubs. The Klubbförman-position is something entirely different. We are a creative team of four students with the main responsibility to plan different, exciting and fun concepts for the club at the nation. We call these event clubs.

We usually have these event clubs every third week and they are something special. They have a great contrast to Helsingkrona’s usual flagship night club, the Schlagerclub. The vibe of the event clubs are entirely different regarding the music, decoration and outfits worn. We have certain routines that we have to follow in this creative process: deciding the theme of the clubs, booking DJ’s, purchase certain decorations for the club and outfits for the workers who run event club.

But our team consists of ambitious individuals who seek to do something extra, to impress. That is why we have decided to make small teaser videos for every event club. Some club concepts are hard to understand and with these small teasers we want to show everyone what music, feeling and outfits you can expect from the event club. They are something to look forward to, like the release of a trailer for a movie you’re dying to see.

So far we have made two teaser videos. One was for Helsingkrona Nation’s “Club Nostalgia” back in the end of January, with the theme of taking every visitor of the club back to the music of their younger days. Here we’re talking about Britney Spears, Aqua, Dr Bombay and Backstreet Boys. We released the second video just a few days ago. This one was a teaser for what to expect of our crazy “Discoschlampe”-club. I won’t go into detail of what to expect from the teaser videos since I don’t want to spoil the moment for you. Except for the making of teaser videos for each event club, which are a bit off the charts of our Klubbförmanna-routine, I enjoy working with my three colleagues. We all share the same creativity, humor, ambition and goal – to bring the best club concepts to Helsingkrona Nation.”

What do you think that your colleagues here will remember you for the most?

“I hope people remember me as a sociable person with a positive aura and for the commitment I’ve brought to the nation during my years here. I probably will be remembered for something here at the nation, since I’m the kind of person who likes to be the center of attention.”

If you have to compare the team you work in, with a team from a movie or a tv series which one would it be? Why?

“Oh, this is a tough one. But one movie I saw recently was Penguins of Madagascar. That was a hilarious movie! If you haven’t heard about it, it basically revolves around the odd but incredibly awesome penguins from the Madagascar-trilogy, Skipper, Rico, Private and Kowalski, saving the world.

Our team of Klubbförmän matches the number in the team-penguin, so that is at least one thing we have in common. We all have different skills in the Klubbförmanna-team but when we combine our individual competencies we create a solid, balanced team. When we are in the process of coming up with new concepts for the night club, we share our thoughts with each other and at the same time we enjoy each other’s company. We plan the events carefully so that our club concepts can be run without flaw and hopefully the audience will be entertained.

We might not be as cuddly and cute as the Penguins of Madagascar, but when facing the problem to, let’s say, save the world, you can count with us to think of the most bizarre way to save it. And we will succeed, because if a team of four penguins can do it, certainly we can as well. If you would ask me which of the penguins I resemble, I would say the crazy and constantly hungry Rico.”

What is your committee looking for when recruiting new members?

“I would strongly suggest people who work well in teams, are ambitious and creative would fit as a Klubbförman. As a newcomer, you don’t need to know much about the nation and the night club. There are always experienced people who gladly will share that information with you.

It isn’t actually up to our team to choose the new members since we don’t have the authority to do so. The PQS of the nation chooses the new members for each foreman position for the next term. But, if those of you who reads this interview thinks it sounds interesting to be a Klubbförman, you should definitely contact us and share your thoughts. We could always recommend you to the PQS to easen his possible choices.”
