Jacob was a solitary man. And with all the constant training, recruiting, and culling recently, he didn't seem to get what he needed. So as winter rolled round and things quietened down, he told Joseph he'd be gone a month, that Osman was in charge at the Veterans Centre till then.
Trudging further up into the Whitetail Mountains was no easy task, especially with a foot of snow already. But Jacob relished the challenge a sigh of contentment escaping him as his cabin finally came into view. Glad to see no signs of disturbance as he unlocked the door and went inside.
Dumping his bag in the corner, he walked out the back door and hefted the axe that was exactly where he had left it and headed out to gather wood for the fire and his makeshift wood fired tub.
