Sometimes I think about some of the friends I had when I used Tumblr
I remember my Jr. High friend being the one who introduced me to Xanga, then Myspace, and eventually Tumblr. I made a Tumblr account back then, but I didn’t really get into it and eventually stopped using it. A couple of years later, in 2012, I decided to give it another try, and I’ve been on Tumblr ever since.
One of the first mutuals I made was a girl named Sarah. We used to have these really deep conversations, and she was hilarious and incredibly goofy. Sadly around 2015 she started getting busy and gradually started using Tumblr less. I remember she purged her account. Then she came back in 2016, but eventually vanished again.
I looked her up last year, mostly out of curiosity, and found out that she had passed away.
It felt like a punch to the gut. I hadn’t spoken to her in years, but somehow, whenever I thought about Tumblr, I would still think about the conversations we had. She was nearing graduation her senior year and was terrified of the future. Then she began going to community college, while I had dropped out of art school and started going to one too. In a way, we were sharing the same experience haha.
Idk, but it’s crazy to think that I can meet someone online, know them for a brief moment in my life, and still find myself thinking about them years later. Every now and then, I’ll wonder how they’re doing or where life took them. I guess I have a tendency to cherish the people who cross my path, even if they’re only part of my life for a little while.
