Mike felt nervous in truth, but once he was sitting and his fingers found the keys, the music flowed out of him. It was one he had practiced with his mother, a happy tune they had eventually played one the anniversary of his parents’ wedding. Luckily, it was a great memory for Mike, and one that was far enough from their death that he could feel happy about the song without feeling the weight of loss.
At one point, he glanced at Mort, grinning as he realized this had worked and the man looked pretty relaxed. His gaze returned on the piano, even if he knew the song, he preferred not to risk a wrong note.
Almost too soon, the last keys were hit, and the tune slowed a stop. Mike breathed out, then scratched behind his neck as he turned on his seat to gaze at Mort with a shy smile. “So?”
