I saw this hc somewhere i dont remember but I liked it so much so its canon for my Ink,
But it was basically saying where a big reason why ink doesn't remember a lot, is because he can remember the infinite universes/multiverses through other Inks. Like he lives through every iteration of Ink simultaneously, and each lifetime blurs into one singular "universe" for him (I also maybe projecting a bit), so a lot of shit is kinda jumbled up together and mixed in with his own multiversal knowledge.
So like,,,, our ink would have the memories of not only himself and his own passed, but the memories of ftfo Ink, outer!ink, underverse Ink, and so on
That's ALSO why I like to think, no matter the circumstance, if Ink were to be in a multiverse that wasn't his own, he'd know exactly where he is, who the other iterations of his friends are and so on.
Also I like the thought of him remembering the most convoluted, typically forgotten aus but can't even remember where he put his yellow oil pastel at
