Platonic Hellboy/Reader
Request: Hellboy has an online friend he's known for years and finally he's gonna be in their town, and his friend wants to meet up! Turns out it's a 70 year old grandma and Hellboy is torn about meeting her.
I hope you like it! (And thank you so much for sending a Hellboy request, he’s my babe<3) ~Ghoul
---------
"So wait, you've never met them before, TabbyCat47?"
Hellboy sighed. "No, I told you. We've never met, only talked online."
"Well do they know that you're," I gestured vaguely at him and around his room at the BPRD Facility. "You?"
"Oh yeah, because it's so easy to tell someone 'Oh y'know that big red demon-gorilla thing they talk about on late-night talk shows? Well that's me.'"
"I mean, you meet all types online. You should just own it, man."
Hellboy rolled his eyes but ignored me, and finished typing out his message to his friend on his ancient concrete slab of a PC. "As far as anyone needs to know, I'm just a guy in north Jersey. It makes conversations easier, and you know I'm all about friendly conversation."
---------
I poked my head into the room, leaning against the doorway. "Hey HB, where'd you say your friend lives again?"
Hellboy hardly regarded my presence, but answered "Cleveland."
I smirked and slipped into the room, dropping a manila folder on the table next to him. "Well send 'em a message saying we're coming that way. And also that they should look out for any pulsating toad-like creatures, just as a fair warning. I hear they're pretty nasty." What a coincidence, really almost like a blessing. A miracle! ...Okay, it only took a few hours (or days...) of digging through files to find something worth investigating that just so happened to be in the greater Cleveland area, but some could call that a miracle.
---------
So the pulsating toad-like creatures were, in fact, very nasty, and left behind quite a bit of ectoplasmic goop, but that was something the local authorities could deal with themselves. There were more important things at hand.
They agreed to meet at a little café just outside of the city, smaller and out of the way because HB didn't really care to draw more attention than needed (but as far as TabbyCat47 knew, he was "shy" and didn't like crowds)
"You're really gonna make me scope it out?" I asked, crossing my arms.
"Yeah, I am. It was your bright idea in the first place, kid. Do your part."
I sighed, but climbed out of the truck parked on the side of the street, making my way into the café. Neither of us had any idea what TabbyCat47 even looked like, but according to their message we'd know them when we saw them. They thought it'd be more fun that way, and HB wasn't gonna be picky, he'd rather just get it over with (the reveal, that is. He actually seemed excited about finally meeting his friend of quite a few years, even if it was hard to tell through his rough, crusty exterior.)
The café wasn't very busy, a few people sitting at the tables inside sipping on coffee and eating pastries. I scanned the room, looking for anyone who stood out or was just there by themself, looking like they were waiting for someone. Almost every table had at least two people, and where there was only a single person it was a businessman on break, sipping on an espresso and looking over some paperwork.
Just as I was fearing that TabbyCat47 was a no-show, I noticed an older woman, about seventy-some years old, sitting alone at a table in the far corner of the café. I felt like I couldn't let HB down by making assumptions, so I casually made my way over.
"Excuse me, ma'am?"
The woman looked up from her tea, her face was soft and inviting, like a grandmother. "Yes deary?"
"I'm so sorry to bother you, but are you by chance waiting for somebody?" I gave her a warm smile.
Her face lit up. "I am! I'm meeting with a friend of mine that I met over the computer. Oh! Are you Gary?" She asked. I could see the way she was squinting to see me through her wire-rimmed bifocals.
I laughed, shaking my head. Gary? "No, I'm Gary's friend."
"Oh, is everything alright?"
"Oh yeah, everything's fine," I said reassuringly. "He's waiting in the car, he asked me if I could come in first. He's shy, and a little nervous about finally getting to meet you." Then I noticed her purple sweater; it had three calico kittens playing with a yarn ball embroidered on the front. "I'll give him a call and tell him to come in, excuse me." I walked over to the other side of the café where there wasn't as many people, and called Hellboy on my phone.
"Hey, do you still have those pictures of your cats in your wallet?"
"Yeah, w-"
I smirked. "I think you'll get along just fine...Gary."
