Zalmoxis - Dragon of the Scholomance
Several stories tall ad bearing two pairs of wings, tusks, and claws, Zalmoxis is a balauri that resides beneath Lake Hermanstadt named from the Dacian god of the same name. Balauri reared in the Scholomance are known for their power and dominion over the elements, lightning being Zalmoxis’ penchant and the bringer or storms. She was hatched and raised by Vlad, being over five hundred years old. This dragon can be brought out of the bottomlessly deep Lake Hermannstadt by using "golden reins" (German: ein goldene Zaum; Romanian: un frâu de aur), and the wizard and dragon would create storms or bring down hail. God made sure the dragon would not weary, because if it plummeted, it would devour a great part of the earth.
During Vlad’s time away from the Scholomance, it was the font of Zalmoxis’ power that fueled the wards that kept the Domdaniel, Salamanca, Swartaskoli, and Scholomance sealed and those inside safe. By 2020 was she awakened and utilized once more, serving her master faithfully as before.
