Happy Birthday @imagiverse \o/ sorry it’s not what you requested, but I am still braindead so here is some fluff~*~
Hope groaned as someone shook him around, very slowly startling him out of his dreamy haze. He had that odd sensation that he was still in dreamland, but also knew this was real life.
Although surely real life wasn’t so dark.
“Liiight?” he slurred, only one eye just half open.
That familiar voice chuckled and he soon felt equally familiar lips press against his forehead. He sighed in contentment.
“You’re awake. You can’t fool me.”
With a bit of a struggle, Hope managed to crack both of his eyes open, only to be met with the most lovely sight he would ever see - Lightning’s face. Surely there was nothing more beautiful than this, right? And while he wanted to say such a thing, he was still half-asleep and could really only express his appreciation one other way.
Lightning hummed in amusement as Hope reached out and pulled her down a bit, connecting their lips in a slow, lazy kiss. It felt like something they could lay around and do for hours...and hours...but clearly she had other plans, because she pulled away in a minute, smirking at his pout.
“What time is it, anyway?” he mumbled, still exhausted but now just really thinking about kissing Lightning some more.
“A couple of minutes until sunrise.”
That woke him, at least a little. “Uh. Excuse me?”
“Remember what you said to me last night?” She sat up. “That you’ve been staying up too late working and your sleep schedule was getting messed up?”
“...I vaguely recall this.”
“I thought you might.” She smirked and then tugged on his hand, trying to pull him up. “And then you also mentioned that you wanted to reset your circadian rhythm.”
“....” Hope’s shoulders slumped. He knew where this was going. “I did, didn’t I.”
Lightning smirked some more. “The best way to do that is with natural light, so come on. It’s nearly sunrise. We can watch it together and then I’ll make us coffee. All right?”
How could he possibly turn that down? “Deal.”
It felt like hours before he managed to get himself out of bed, but he and Lightning managed to make it outside on the porch just in time to see the first rays of light breaking the horizon. It did wake him up in a strangely primal way, though having Lightning curled into the crook of his arm likely helped as well. They watched in silence, marveling at the dawn of a new day.
When they got up so she could make them coffee, Hope yawned hugely. He knew it would probably take a few more days or possibly weeks of this to completely reset his sleep schedule, but he didn’t mind a bit. Not if Lightning was there.
And somehow, he knew she always would be.
