“Ahh, so this is where you have been hiding.”
The voice made Chikori's blood freeze in her veins. She was trapped; Frieza had somehow found her, and was here to personally execute her. They didn't know what to do. Run? Beg? No, no, they couldn't give Frieza the satisfaction of that, not after what he did to the Saiyan race. She was running out of options, and every second that ticked away was one less option to save her skin.
Wasn't she supposed to be safe from the Frieza Force in Tokitoki City? They had let their guard down for too long. And now they were paying the price.
“Frieza! We won't let you take Chikori!”
That had been her mentor, Nanna. The yellow Majin flew directly at Frieza, aiming a punch at him. All it took was one finger for him to block her attack, sending her flying backwards. Mulla, a purple Majin, was aiming a kick to follow up Nanna's attack, and he blocked it with one swing of his tail. Both of them got up again to attack, but Frieza's laserbeam attack made quick work of them.
“What a shame. Now then, you shall pay for your treachorous leave!”
“I did no such thing!” Chikori shouted, despite knowing how pointless it would be for her to reason with the merciless tyrant. Before she could say anything else, Frieza's tail wrapped itself around Chikori's throat and squeezed. Though both of them were short, Frieza's long tail made easy work of lifting Chikori into the air. Legs flailing, hands scraping at Frieza's tail, green eyes frantic as she struggled to breathe. It was getting difficult. He lifted a single finger. Chikori's pupils widened as energy began to swirl above Frieza's finger. It easily concentrated into a solid ball of light. Out shot beams of light, like bullets, into Chikori's body, hitting each limb and joint in her body, and everywhere in between. Quick breaths of fear were rapidly becoming harder and harder to breathe.
“You stupid simian. Did you really think that you could escape my wrath?” sneered Frieza.
There was a pounding inside her head. A knocking as she fell to the floor. She was slowly bleeding out onto the floor, and yet the knocking persisted, slowly becoming louder.
Her green eyes flashed open. A sharp intake of air. The knocking was still there. It was sharp now, no longer softened by the harshness of the nightmare that plagued her. Chikori's short purple hair was strangling her neck, damp with sweat. She struggled with brushing it away while trying to calm down, the rapid adrenaline of the nightmare starting to fade.
A muffled voice could be heard from the other side of the door. Chikori fought with the bedsheets that trapped her, until she could feel the cold floor of her room under her feet. She didn't bother with looking at the clock; she hardly had any visitors, and assumed it must have been important if they were coming during what passed for night in Toki Toki City.
It must be Fallafal, she thought to herself in her still-confused haze. Coming to check on me again.
Chikori pressed a button near the door on the inside of her unit, and the door slid open.
“Fallafa--” She stopped when she realized that the person in front of her was not him, and definitely not a human, if their bright pink skin was anything to go by. They had familiar black horns atop their head, and an anatomy not unlike the terror of Chikori's dream.
“O-oh...” said the person on the other side of Chikori's doorstep. They had an almost childish voice, contrary to their almost frightning appearance. “S-sorry to wake you, but y-you w-were s-screaming a l-lot, a-and...” They poked their fingers together. “U-um... Are you o-okay?”
Chikori seethed with a mix of emotions. A churling mix of fear, anger, rage, irritation, fear again, with a single drop of curiosity. No, right now she needed to get out of this, to close the door quickly.
“No, I'm fine,” she lied through gritted teeth.
The person in front of her hummed a thoughtful tone. “You're sweating, but your a/c is on.”
What, are they some kind of detective? “I run hot.”
“A-ah. Th-that makes sense...” The person in front of them gave a nervous laugh. They pointed down the hall. “Ah, I'm one of your neighbors on this hall. I was hanging out with the person in the other room, and—and, um. A-anyways, I'm Helial! You can call me Hel! She/her pronouns please.”
Chikori looked down at the hand that Helial extended to them. It looked just like the hand in her nightmares, threatening to always do her in for things that had been beyond her control. When Chikori didn't return the handshake, Hel retreated her own hand, feeling a little downcast by the poor greeting.
“A-anyways. I-if y-you n-need a-a-anything, I-I'm j-just d-down the h-hall.” With the awkward offer to help out of the way, Hel made and awkward turn and left. Chikori wasted no time in closing the sliding door as soon as Helial took a single step away. When the door had clicked into place, she crumpled in on herself, folding to the floor within one breath.
