God tells us that He is light and that in Him there is not darkness at all. This statement leads us to a question. Psalm 91:1 says “Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty.” How does Someone who is pure light cast a shadow? In order for you to cast a shadow, something has to be brighter than you are. Is anyone willing to make a case that there’s something brighter than God? The Bible tells us He’s pure light. It says blessed is the man who walks in the presence of the Most High, because he’s dwelling in the shadow of the Almighty.

How does a being of pure light ever cast a shadow? It can’t. So we have to visualize the picture that God was showing us. The man walks into the presence of the Most High and the light of God shines on him. If the man is walking in the presence of the Most High, who’s shadow is being cast? The man’s. A very important fact to understand is that when you’re in the presence of God, the shadow of the Almighty is you. It’s you. Remember in the New Testament there was a guy named Peter. He was in the presence of the Almighty and as he walked his shadow passed over a dead man who was then raised from the dead. Why? Because although it was Peter’s shadow, his shadow was holding the presence of the Almighty.

God is light and the purpose of light is to hold pictures and constantly move forward. We know from science that light is moving at 186,282 miles per second. We also know from science that the universe is constantly expanding at the speed of light. It makes sense that the universe is growing at the speed of the substance of which God is made, because the Bible says that God holds the universe together. That is something that may take a while to get your head around.

Referring to last week’s devotional, if Moses saw the back side of light, He would have seen the light of where God had been, which is the past. This is how he wrote Genesis without ever experiencing it. Can you imagine Moses sitting there while God reveals this to him and he’s quickly writing, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said, ‘Let there be light’, and there was light.”?
