Heidi’s been told more than once not to run in the hall of the high school, but who can blame her if she runs just a little bit ahead of her dad and into the classroom. “I’m here!” It’s likely she’ll get in trouble for yelling as she entered later, but she pays no mind as she spies the empty seat beside Kaoruko and skips over, pulling her backpack into her lap as she sits and rummaging around. “I brought your juice box!” Leaning forward a little bit, she whispers, “Don’t tell Papa I brought it.”
She leans in with a conspiratorial smile towards Heidi, taking the juice box with both hands, as if it’s a precious treasure. “Thank you! I won’t tell if you won’t,” she whispers back.
As Oliver trails in too-soon, Kaoruko slips the juice box behind her, where he can’t see, and immediately passes Heidi a notebook from another class, plus a special pencil bag filled with colored pencils - to keep her entertained in class.
“Here, I kept this on me for you.”
Hopefully the colors were okay - she’d started collecting colored pencils for Heidi, but she still felt the rainbow was lacking. Nothing was too much for the little girl she considered her baby sister, even if she herself was technically the youngest sister in her own family.
As she turns to face the front of the classroom, ready to pay attention in class, her hand reaches behind her and quietly takes the straw out of its plastic wrapping, before poking the straw through foil. She eyes Oliver, holding the juice box below the desk, primed and ready to sneak a sip the next time he turned away.
