Pick up your cross and follow Him
"Denying yourself" may be one of the hardest thing a follower of God can do. It is a battle between God's desire and your own hearts desire. You will see yourself na mismong sarili mona yung kalaban mo. You will get desperate to the point that you keep on refusing the Lord's instructions, you will argue with Him and state those reasons you have kung bakit gusto mong sundin yung hearts desire mo (na parang batang nagrereason out sa daddy niya kung bakit gusto niya ng candy).
But then you will realize na the more it is hard for you to do it, the more it will become worth it. The Lord allow you to be on that situation for you to see and prove to God kung ano yung kaya mong alisin or I give up just to walk according to His will. Hindi madali ang denying your own hearts desire and it is true that it will break your heart. But if breaking your heart means pleasing and following the Lord, you will see yourself na willing gawin yon kahit masakit because it is really worth it.
That’s what it means when Paul said that our joy should be a kind of joy that does not base on circumstances. Yes, you are hurting but the Joy is still there, because you know that you are walking at the path that the Lord have made, not your own path.
Many times we may feel this urge to get the pen from the Lord and be the one who will wrote your story but sis stop doing it, allow Him to write it instead. He is the greatest author of your story, trust Him.
Matthew 16:24 Then Jesus said to His disciples, "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself, pick up his cross and follow me."
