((Headcanon that Heceri lived through the events of Shivering Isles, but did not become the new Sheogorath....
...because his half-brother companion Errisare did.
.......
Stay with me, Iāve had a long time to think about this.))
The DLC doesnāt allow you to bring followers to Sheogorathās realm, but I didnāt see any hard evidence that says that only one person is allowed in at a time. So IMAGINE:
Heceri, fresh off the heels of the Oblivion Crisis and the sacrifice of Martin, traveling along the roads of Cyrodiilwith his con-artist of a half-brother. Errisare only looked up his half-sibling after hearing about his heroic exploits, and Heceri knows thereās probably only a sliver of good-intentions behind Errisareās silver words...ut he hasnāt seen or heard from his parents since the skies tore open, and Errisare confessed that his own father and sibling died in the Daedra invasion.
If heās right, then this half-brother is the only family Heceri has left, so despite the obvious knowledge of the con, he doesnāt want to immediately estrange them.
Theyāre traveling past Niben Bay when they catch sight of a strange new island out in the water, and - unable to resist finding out just what this strange structure is - they cross the water to find a very overworked and underpaid Gaius Prentus standing watch. Despite the Imperialās warning, when a strange voice rings out in the night and invites the brothers to come to āthe Islesā, neither mer can resist their curiosity, and they enter.
Haskil is mildly surprised to see two mortals enter the portal, but reasons that at least one of them may be the Champion his master seeks, and asks both mer the question: Will they return to Cyrodiil? Or continue through the next door?
Heceri is afraid that this portal might be the start of another invasion of Tamriel (despite Haskilās assurances to the contrary), and agrees to continue on for the purposes of stopping whatever threat might be occurring. Errisare - ever the opportunist - agrees as well. After all, thereās bound to be some gold or sellable artifacts to be had in an unusual venture like this, right?
And bada-bing, bada-boom: thatās how Heceri and Errisare end up stuck in the Shivering Isles, running back and forth between Mania and Dementia doing fetch quests and solving inane puzzles with an invisible deadline hanging above their heads.
Throughout the journey - though it is Heceri who carries the heavy titles and heroic deeds within his history - it is actually Errisare who starts to take the lead...
When Heceri finds himself ill with the idea of murdering Thaedon to take up the title of Duke of Mania, itās Errisareās slippery hands that have no trouble adding a little extra Greenmote to the addicted nobleās meal. Though Heceriās experience with Oblivionās invasion helps the Aureals defend Passwall, itās Errisareās stealth that gets them both through the ruins of Xeddefen to stop the invasion of Order in Passwall.
And when the time comes for the Greymarch to start, and for someone new to take up the mantle of Sheogorath, itās Errisare who steps in to fill the role.
āYou already had your shot at glory, oā Champion,ā He tells Heceri with a smile, as he sits upon the Throne of Madness. āItās my turn to make my mark upon Tamrielās history...ā
.......
After the defeat of Jyggalag, Heceri returned to Tamriel alone, and the gate to the Shivering Isles disappeared. Errisare disappeared from the pages of history, but Heceri never forgot his half-brother.
And of all the Daedric Princes, he made certain that his future children knew Sheogorath the best.
