She’d been shaking all the way home, he could see, through the moonlight shining into the car that her skin seemed nearly translucent. This had been a bad idea. Even though they’d saved a few tortured souls, Winter seemed to be reliving each vile turn in that creepy house. Kai felt liberated. He felt disgusted. He felt w h o l e. For the first time in his life, he knew purpose, he had found his ‘holy’ path (or whatever those religious freaks were calling a ‘come to the lord’ moment these days). However, he hadn’t reached his hand out and found God’s hand - no - instead he’d reached into himself and found his own heart, dripping black with putrid hate for the vileness of people, and the desire for a new beginning, under his own lead.
Hands clenched the steering wheel as he contemplated a new world, however, his dark eyes moved to the shivering body of his sister, so innocent in all of this, so p u r e. ‘It’s alright now,’ he soothed, turning into their driveway and killing the ignition. ‘You know that creep wouldn’t have gotten far right?’ he spoke again, his hand moving to rest against her exposed thigh. ‘I’ll always be here to protect you,’ he reasoned, wanting to absolve her of her fears. Leaning inward, he pressed her forehead to her own, nose gliding over hers, hot breath nearly mingling. ‘I’m going to make a better world for us,’ he dared to proclaim, ‘you’ll see.’
