he didn’t realize how hungry he was until he’d sat down in front of the food presented to him. hours in and out of surgery, diagnosing and discharges --- it’s no wonder he’d forgotten to take the lunch breaks offered to him. within minutes his soda was emptied, and his place half empty. it wasn’t until soft laughter broke him from his daze. mid-chew he glanced up to her with surprised, then apologetic eyes. she’d been kind enough to bring him a much needed meal and he’d forgotten she had come to visit for a few minutes. “i’m so sorry.” he said, after harsh swallow. hands immediately going through the motions to slide as much of the food in her direction. “here, you eat too. you’re meant to be having lunch with me not staring at me while i eat the food you paid for..--- i’m a crazy bastard aren’t i?” he half laughed, but the guilt was slowly beginning to eat away at him.

     it was easy to spot whenever jimin was given a patient under joohyeon’s care. she was usually organized regardless of the doctor she was working with, but it was clear just how above and beyond she went when it came to home. certain sections were color coded for easier access and understanding of the disease and the potential causes (included with little sticky notes reminding him of the dates he’d diagnosed certain things). patient’s charts were arranged in the same order he went when doing rounds as opposed to alphabetical, and she never let her pager battery get below 50% charged. and then there was today. arrived 20 minutes early so she could greet him with breakfast and his itinerary for the day. “good morning doctor moon!” she greeted enthusiastically offering appropriate bow before holding out the lunch kit brought with one hand and the files in the other. “you have quite a bit planned for today, some returning patients, and a few new ones -- oh! and some discharges so i figured you should power up before then. and i can run and get you some coffee while you get settled if you’d like, even though i’m very much against it. not good for your teeth or stomach.” 

     many times he promised never to step foot near the other’s office. just the sight of it made him scowl. but he couldn’t deny the his talents, despite how many times he wanted to. he could only talk about a patient conditions for 2 minutes before he noticed the familiar lunch kit, and he dropped the paper work to pick it up with agitation. “i respectfully asked you to stop working with her.” he reminded as he thought of jimin bringing him home cooked meals with cheerful smile and doe filled eyes. such an idiot. “i don’t want you near her even if she does have some sort of demented respect for you, i forbid it and as her older brother i have that right.”

     his feet could move fast, but her determination made her move even faster. he was sure his mother could keep her preoccupied long enough for him to perform a vanishing act up the stairs; but there she was. one hand on the banister, and the other on her hip blocking him from his serenity. “i’m busy that night..” he blurted out as response to texts that had long been ignored. perhaps, he thought, if he pretended he didn’t see them they wouldn’t exist. “i’m sure she or he is very kind, and i’m very sorry to disagree but i have other arrangements. engagements i can not skip out on. i’m sure they’ll understand.” he’d begun to back himself back into the kitchen, preparing himself for a defense against her persistence if needed.

     dropping by unannounced had begun to happen so frequently she stopped pretending she had excuses. now if he ever asked her why she was there she’d simply say ‘because i wanna be’. but not much more. she wouldn’t mention how he was the closest she’d ever be to her father, and thus the closest she’d ever be to having a family. she tried not to talk so much --- ask so much about him but she couldn’t help it. her curiosity always got the best of her, and no matter how much he told her she’d always want to know more. “you have to give me more than that.. --- i never met the guy you have to give me more than ‘oh he was alright’.” she countered after a given answer had left her more than a little disappointed. “what did he like to talk about? did he ever mention my mom? --- ever mention me?” her eyes wandered away from his gaze at the end of her question. a bit embarrassed at the hope that climbed its way to the top of her tone.

✧ i love writing angst, but most of the times, if the reply is really painful, i end up crying while writing it

the male has been sat on this park bench for a good hour or so, concentrating hard on the rose bush in front of him and sketching the outline of the delicate petals. when he looks up to take note of the next part, however, he notices something different about the lighting, and blinks up at the figure now casting the roses into shadow. “ could you move ? you’re blocking my light. ”
