"If you thought that then why are you here right now?" She stated more than asked, lips set in an unhappy frown and her jaw set as it was clenched.

Her tense posture suggested that she didn't want to deal with him right now, if her words and facial expression weren't clear enough. She didn't even turn to look at him, didn't even really address him, as the stiff shoulders were what faced Matt, her breathing deep as if she was forcing it one to come out.

The hit-and-run had been more of an annoyance than anything else.

The car clipped his hip before taking off, only a bruise being left in its wake. No, it was falling on the ice afterwards and slamming the back of his head into the pavement that made him see stars. That made this nice woman stop at this ungodly hour (or, for a lawyer, just another hour) and check to see if he was all right. But he couldn’t take advantage of her generosity any longer, about to shake his head before thinking better of it, “No, no, you’ve already done more than enough. My apartment is only a few blocks from here. I can make it.”

While the church shelter was better than most, it still had its issues, just like every other. So when Lucan stopped in to check on Allie, to see how she was doing - for reasons he didn’t really understand, but he felt compelled to make sure that she was all right, felt responsible for her in some way - she offhandedly told him that one of the men staying there was being an asshole. And that had him spinning around, knuckles cracking as he made a fist and asked her to point out which one. She was in front of him in an instant, telling him to back off, that it wasn’t a big deal, but he responded through grit teeth, “I just want to talk to him.”

Ella let out a humorless huff of a laugh as she offered a smile that didn’t reach her eyes, it was almost a pitying look that she offered matt before taking a long draw from her cup. The bourbon burned about as much as she knew her words would probably sting matt, “Then you will be sticking around for a very long time, if you were to actually wait that long.” The voice in the back of her head whispering that he should be concerned that she would stick around that long.
