When you tell people how they need to behave with you, it's not a boundary, it is an invitation. When you tell people what you need from them, it is still nothing but a request that they are free to accept or not. When you communicate to people how you will respond to restore your inner peace the next time they display a behaviour that is not acceptable for you anymore (whether they agree with it or not), you just expressed a boundary. Here is an example: You need to stop calling me after 9pm. - not a boundary I need you to stop calling me after 9pm. - not a boundary. Next time you call me after 9pm I am blocking your number - a boundary. Yet again, it takes the courage to follow through and enforce the boundary, especially when people challenge them. Have you ever backed down from enforcing a boundary?
